Night Rider, no KITT

It’s funny how much I miss my bike if I don’t ride it — or don’t ride it much — during the day. Tonight at about 9 p.m., I went out for a night ride. I rode down South Clinton Ave to Elmwood, over to East, and then back toward downtown before cutting through the Park Ave neighborhood to home. Nothing much — about 9 miles. But it will amaze most people who know me to learn that I don’t think anything now of a quick 9-mile ride at night. It’s a far cry from a bag of Doritos in front of the TV.

This was my first extended ride at night. During the jazz festival, I rode my bike home every night, but that’s not very far. It was so quiet for so much of the ride tonight. I could hear sounds in the trees, people shutting doors and windows in their houses, and city noises echoing from a couple miles away. It was more twilight than nighttime, so the light was beautifully ominous as it threw the heavy clouds into relief.
- As usual, I took pictures.
