Hi Adam,

My rating isn't dependent on getting to fill up my water. I just think it's a good sign if a bike shop or store will let you do it. As for theft, I'm sure your story isn't the only example like that, but I'm kind of an innocent-until-proven-guilty guy myself. I wouldn't want to deny water to every cyclist because somebody once stole something in a bathroom. But your point is well taken.

Folks, check out Adam's site about cycling in Japan by clicking on his name above his comment.

What happens if they don't let you fill up the water bottle? Do they get a bad rating?
I ask because, I used to work at a bike shop when I was in college. We let people use the bathroom to fill up water bottles. However, we caught some guy stealing stuff. He would pocket it, or creatively hold it and then ask to fill up his bottle. While in the bathroom he would tuck it away in his fanny pack or somewhere more secure.
For a while we were cautious about letting people into the bathroom.
