Hear me out before you react. Yesterday, October 22, it was 81 degrees in Rochester, NY. This is a town where people are used to trick-or-treating in the snow. A town where the first and last quarters of soccer season require spectators to wear parkas, winter hats and gloves.
As a now-avid cyclist, I’m a big, big fan of warm weather lasting into the fall and winter months. Thus far, I’ve been content to walk out into the yard each night and spray a can of AquaNet hairspray into the air to keep this warm weather happening. Now, though, I’ve decided to go one step further.
Yesterday, I took a new job as the bike planning coordinator for a great American company:
ExxonMobil is developing a new line of bicycles that are really going to shake up the cycling market, and I’m going to help spread the word to my fellow cycling enthusiasts.
I can’t say much about the bikes, but I can tell you that the new line will be sold under the PetroBike ® brand name, and the bikes will feature two special new design elements, code-named “Oil ®” and “Gasoline ®.”
ExxonMobil also has an ambitious new program called “WinterBike ®” aimed at encouraging year-round cycling by making the average temperature in the Northeast bottom out at about 70 degrees from December through March.
I’ll let you know more once I start. Wish me luck, and don’t pack those shorts yet!
