We had another great Wednesday Night Cruise tonight. Eight people came on a dry but cold night — it was about 35 degrees during the ride. What a fun bunch of people. No agenda, no problems, just riding.
We started from the traditional spot, Monty’s Krown on Monroe Avenue. Then if was off through the South Wedge to the Genesee Riverway Trail. We rode under the new “Freddie-Sue” Bridge and then headed over to Monroe again. We crossed 490 using the pedestrian/cyclist overpass and stopped at Boulder Coffee Company for hot chocolate and beer. (Individually. I don’t think any one person had both.)
While we were in Boulder, a woman came over and asked, “Are you guys RocBike?” It was Kristin from The Urban Homesteaders. I met her on Facebook when I came across the project she and her partner Ben are working on. They’re trying to live sustainably on a city lot in the Wedge. Be sure to visit their site — it’s inspiring. Ben came over to say hello, too, and I offered them the use of the Xtracycle to haul things if they wanted it. Kristin said she recognized us because she saw the Packet Boat outside the cafe and thought, “I know that bike!” She said they’re thinking of setting up a bike caravan to haul compost on a regular schedule. Sounds hip! Sadly, she also told us their bikes were recently stolen.
After Boulder, some of the crew went over to LUX and some went home. I went home, because I’m old.
By the way, the microfleece balaclava I bought before the ride tonight was warm and comfortable. What a difference!
Here, for your viewing pleasure, is a slideshow with photos and audio from tonight’s cruise:
