Whoa, Adam...that flashed me back to when my daughter was hit...her front tire was hit and she was thrown off the bike. She's okay, and I'm so glad that you are, too.

I am glad to hear that you come out of your accident with all your parts in tacked. I would also like to welcome you to the club of the battered cyclist. It is not a club I wanted to join and unfortunately the club’s membership is growing in numbers everyday.
My membership was extend to me when I was hit by a car going about 20mph or so. I was crossing his front of the van at 13mph when I was struck. I think the worst part is know that it was going to happen no matter what I would do, there was no avoiding it. I actually had enough time to think “do I break hard and get my front tire hit or push harder on my peddles to get hit in the back. I pushed harder and for my effort I received $200 in damages to the bike and a scar on my elbow to remember the event by.

After that incident I am a firm believer in getting the authorities involved and this is why. I got up right away feeling no pain. In fact I did not suffer any pain at all as the days went by, but what if I did suffer pain a day or two later and it could have been tied to the accident? Without official document and claims to the insurance carriers you are left out in the wind with no recourse in collecting any financial reimbursements. If it did not get filed then it did not happen. At the least, I agree with Smudgemo, you should get the insurance info as well as driver’s licenses numbers. This may help later if you have problems with you or the bike that can be tied to the accident.

Glad you are ok. Keep cycling and don’t let this accident throw you. Just keep your eye on them, don’t trust them, and be ready to break at any given time.

Love the Podcasts and would like to know more on how you do it. Keep them coming.

Always get the other guy's info. If you are pumped with adrenaline, you won't always feel any body damage until later. Plus, just because you don't notice any bike damage at the scene, doesn't mean it isn't there (especially at night.) Personally, I wouldn't bother with a doctor visit unless something hurt, but I'd surely take the bike to a good wrench to give it a look-over. Any damage and you can have the guy at fault pay for it. I know it's difficult to stay put when you just want to get away from the situation, but it's the way to go. Even calling in the cops is a good idea since the other guy will be less likely to deny his participation in the accident at the scene.

I'm glad you are okay. Hearing about cyclists getting hurt while saving the planet really bothers me.

Glad to hear you and the bike escaped fairly unscathed. What's impressive is that the surge of adrenaline did not tip you over the edge into the red zone. I hope the operator of that vehicle recognizes how you kept your cool, so both of you could deescalate a bit. No harsh words exchanged, and everyone got to go home.

jeez man, I am glad you and the bike (and the down low glow) weren't hurt. I was hit this summer and it ruined a wheel. Maybe you should get another down low glow and mount it on your top tube, facing up, so it's the up high glow, illuminating you in an eerie green blast of light!

I typically use a helmet light, a seatpost mounted tail-light and a helmet mounted tail light on my rides to or from work. Staring right at the driver is a great way to get their attention as well as seeing if they see you. Glad to hear you made it out alright. Hopefully the driver learned something from the situation too.

Holy crap, Adam (he said eloquently)! I'm so glad you're OK. Sounds like you did all the right things in the situation, including keeping your head in the immediate aftermath.

I'm glad you didn't get hurt. One additional measure you might think about is getting a helmet-mounted light. If you see a potential right cross coming up, you can get the driver's attention just by turning your head and shining the light directly on him. LED helmet lights are pretty cheap nowadays and not all that heavy. I have to confess I don't use mine as often as I should, probably because it makes me look like a dork.
