Zig-zag Bunny Cruise (Comments: 1)

Global warming, y’know? In the 60s during the day in November in Rochester. Then in the 50s at night for a gorgeous cruise. The usual gang was there — Joey, Brian, Kristine, Karen, Adam and me — plus Nicolle and Rob, who joined us for the first time. (Welcome!) Adam was wearing a bunny suit and boxers with bicycles on them. He wore the boxers backwards so he could put the tail of the bunny suit through the slot. Brilliant!
We started out heading up Monroe Avenue toward Cobbs Hill. We turned left down Rosedale Street, then down Hinsdale Street, which crosses Culver Road and becomes Norris Drive as it passes through Cobbs Hill Park (site of this year’s Rochester Cobb’s Hill Cyclocross).
We veered right on Hillside Avenue, then took the fun pedestrian/bike bridge over 490 to Colby Street in the Park Avenue neighborhood. This bridge is fun for two reasons — a cool view of the highway from the top of it, and a great zig-zagging descent down to Colby.
Next it was up Park Avenue to East Avenue, then left on the wonderfully named Probert Street to University Avenue. We crossed under the railroad bridge on Winton Road and kept going all the way up to Atlantic. Then we took Atlantic back into the city, turning right on University to head down to Alexander Street. Brian and I were in the mood for a little Old Toad fare as we passed Rochester’s favorite British pub — maybe we need to end there one of these weeks.
Alexander took us all the way to South Avenue. We stopped for a potty break at LUX, then kept riding over to Linden-Meigs playground, where Nicolle, Kristine and Karen swung on the swings while the rest of us rode the “oval” in the playground. I wanted to ride the Xtracycle down the tall slide, but I couldn’t get anyone to hold it at the top. One of these days, though…
We headed back to LUX, passing the Black Pearl on Caroline and Meigs, where we got a big cheer from the assembled patrons. Actually, as Adam pointed out, they started out making fun of us until we yelled “Happy Wednesday!” and honked our horns and rang our bells. Then it was all smiles, waves and laughter.
I left my wallet at home in my messenger bag, so I couldn’t get into LUX. (I’m a married, 34-year-old father of two, but apparently I’ve kept my youthful looks.) The gang very kindly offered to go somewhere else, but I told them to (sob) go on without me and I went home.
This weekly ride has become one of my favorite ways to spend time on a bike. Hope to see you there next week!
Here are my photos from the cruise:
