		<description>How about using tires with studs? Nokian (among others) makes some excellent (if expensive) studded tires that make a tremendous difference if you ride throughout the winter. This is my second season bike commuting in the winter here in Rochester - I can&#039;t imagine doing my 12 mile round-trip w/o studded tires. The Nokian Extremes provide excellent traction, even on roads with icy ruts.</description>

		<description>I&#039;d recommend a good set of touring-style panniers, at least of medium capacity, especially since you already have a rear rack; these give you a decently low center-of-gravity, and if they&#039;re not wholly weatherproof initially, you can use plastic bags as liners. Even with large panniers you won&#039;t have the carrying capacity of an Xtracycle, obviously. But you&#039;ll have more flexibility - while not breaking the bank or unduly restricting the amount you can safely carry.</description>
