When the grandkids are young enough, you can tell them anything... You should hear how the story has imbellished once they get a hold of it. Just give them a push (a paragraph or two) to get them started. They will make you a super hero.

Thanks, brucew! Good advice indeed. I've probably been running mine (26x1.9's) at higher inflation than optimal for ice.

I'm on my second winter (and second bike) with my set of Nokian W106s, and I love 'em. I can ride, stop and steer safely on ice I can't walk on.

I discovered this the hard way last year in the parking lot behind Meyer's Hardware. Because of it, I almost rode my bike the 2/10ths of a mile to Starry Nites last night. Walking home I realized I should have.

You may know this, but newbies to studded bike tires may not: Air pressure plays a huge role in how the tires perform. The 700Cx35 W106s have a maximum pressure of 65 psi. I ride them in the dry at 55F/60R. With that much air on the slippery stuff, they can be a little skittish. Drop the pressure to 25F/30R and they feel secure as tank tracks. No pinch flats at that pressure either.
