Till last year, there was ferry service from New Bedford to Woods Hole. I could leave early in the morning, ride around "The Cape" all day and catch the 5:30 PM return boat.

Occasionally I would ride the 45 miles back home from Woods Hole that was highlighted by the crossing of the Bourne Bridge.

The ferry service did not work out and has been discontinued. However there is a way. Last weekend, one of my riding partners, hitched a ride with his bike on a private boat.

Every weekend there are dozens of boaters leaving Mattapoisett, Fairhaven or New Bedford headed to the Vinyard. He hung around the docks in Mattapoisetts asked around and got him self passage, and was dropped of in Woods Hole.
