I live 6 hours from the Greenway and wish I could have access to it much more, so your story was very fun to read. Thanks for posting it.

I've traveled the Greenway, at different times, on all the sections between Portageville, which is the south end of Letchworth SP, to the U of Rochester.

My favorite trips have been between the Yard of Ale in Piffard and Scottsville during the very early morning hours in the summer. The illuminated canopy and bucolic river valley scenes that consistently reveal themselves as you go along is just magical. I can't recommend it enough.

Unfortunately, it is hard for me to get back to Rochester during autumn, which I'm sure is a truly dramatic time to be on the Greenway. To anyone who reads this, please count your blessings and try to enjoy it a little extra for me during that especially beautiful time of year:-)

I live in Scottsville and I started biking down the trail last Saturday morning at 8 AM and I biked past your camp and we exchanged greetings. It was funny because I have never seen anyone camping on the trail before. Someone just sent me this link and here you are again. I'm glad you had fun. Biking in the woods is always a good time. As long as you remember the Deet that is!

Very cool story, Adam and Jess!

I've been along those sections of the trail and thought they were gorgeous.

Very nice ride. It is amazing how quickly you can get out from the city and see all sorts of wildlife within just a few miles.

I am a multiday/week user of the trail and support the FOGVG (so they can get that detour in to Ballantyne road!). I have only found a link to report potholes, but that debris along Scottsville road has been there forever and is dangerous. Know who to call?

Just like to add that Letchworth SP is only 30 miles or so from Rochester and a good place to stay for the night and shower in the morning! It is right off the trail and bikes get in for free so no worries! Carrying plenty of food/water is a must also, and don't forget to dismount for the equestrians! FYI the DEC wants to be called if you see any motorized vehicles, the numbers for them are in every newsletter of the FOGVG. Snowmobiles are only allowed during the winter on certain sections as an exception, and the clubs do maintenance on the trail.

In the southern part of the trail 2 new bridges were put in with grants/funds. Be sure to use Tim Bayer's mapsets at www.fogvg.org. The maps are old and much has changed (for the better). Here is my ride last year (bridges were out then):

The ride through Letchworth on the less busy eastern side is spectacular...much recommended.

Hope to see you on the trail! Enjoyed the story.

Milk crates, eh? I must have one. (Target sells bright orange ones now for ~$3.) I must also secure my rack to my bike, as it currently wobbles, vibrates, and inspires little confidence.
