I think this totally depends on your situation. I was recently hit by a car, I wasn't badly injured (just some bumps and bruises). I didn't feel the need to call the police, but I did get the driver's information (license plate number, make and model of the car, name, telephone number) and I promised to keep her up to date as far as me taking my bike for a damage estimate, and filing an accident report at the local police department.

She was nothing but cooporative, although as I said earlier, this definately depends on the situation.

Good luck, Safe Riding!

Does anybody know of any good qualified attorneys for bicycle accidents in upstate NY?

That might be a good piece of information to keep with your id and contact info while you are biking.
