In re Stephen's Q: I wonder if you're referring to the section of the Lehigh Valley Trail (N Branch) that runs along Kendrick Road south from the Strong Hospital parking areas to East River Road (near the UR laser lab and alumni ctr.); that part of the trail is usually plowed and/or salted, probably for foot traffic to and from the UR facilities. Unfortunately, the actual crushed-stone trail that runs due S from E. River Rd. to B-H Town Line Rd. is not plowed. This section becomes difficult, what with frozen footprints and/or deep/slippery snow, and is often not accessible (in practical terms) to bikes. Also, some of the usual suspects who invade this part of the trail on motorized vehicles use it for snowmobiling - and a year ago some vandal(s) actually removed the trail signage (which carries the prohibition against wheeled and tracked stinkpots) at the crossing of Crittenden Rd. Well, what else would we expect from that crowd? Footnote: the clods who run on the trail with dirt bikes and 4-wheeled ATVs are a derstructive menace, too. And there's no discernible enforcement of the regs.

Do they regularly plow sections of the trail? While riding across the canal path last week, the section of the valley trail just south of the canal path was plowed.
