I totally agree with you. I’m still trying to get my wife to understand why exercise is so important to me – I’m a better person to be around when I get it.
Funny you should mention studded tires – I’m selling my set due to my new wheel size of choice being incompatible with my old studded tires. They are a life saver in the hardpacked snow and ice, but don’t do much in deep snow. $20 for the pair if anyone is interested. They are Kenda / Nashbar 26″ x 1.95 studded snow tires meant for commuting more than trail riding. I figure they would do more good on someone’s bike than in my basement. I’m in Rochester.

They’re already on Emily’s bike, and she’s currently braving the winter winds to bike across town. We had to take her back fender off to get the back tire to fit, but in her opinion it’s well worth the trade-off!

I had clearance issues with my full wrap Planet Bike fenders. They would work, but they would rub if I hit a bump. On the plus side, the fenders would keep the tires clean. Try a fender that clips onto the seat post – they don’t offer the same coverage, but they have more clearance.
